BC Tech Industry Boom: Vancouver’s Virtual Reality Hub

Opened in the Fall of 2017 and located in the heart of historic Gastown, "The Cube" makes it's splash as a one of a kind hub for virtual and augmented reality in Vancouver. The cube brands itself as a community for tech innovators to bounce ideas of one another. Aimed at helping tech start-ups get their feet off the ground, "The Cube" offers work-space to entrepreneurs while also providing cheap advanced tech equipment. The space is unique;  the founders frame "The Cube" as a hub for technological development and innovation, a place where technological vanguards can put their heads together, and collaborate on contemporary ideas and inventions.

The development of "The Cube" in Vancouver's signals the upswing of BC's already booming tech industry. However, the fate of the city as a major technological nerve center for both Canada and North America, will depend largely on the ability of BC's educational institutions to graduate skilled technological grads to fill  job positions in this rapidly growing sector.

Demand for skilled talent in the I.T sector in British Columbia is currently higher than the supply of trained workers. Currently, there is high competition between I.T companies trying to recruit valuable skilled employees. The booming BC tech industry and low number of skilled I.T professionals means that training in an information technology related area and eagerness to work may be the key to good job opportunities in B.C right now.

Where we come in...

At ITD Canada we're committed to filling this shortage in skilled tech grads, offering programs in a variety of I.T areas in Open Source Web Development, Game Programming, Network Administration, Embedded Programming.  Our programs are modeled to meet industry demands through hands on experience and classroom study, and immersive field trips. We are knowledgeabe of what BC tech employers are searching for, so our students are never "left in the dark'. As Vancouver's tech sector and community continues to grow, we are excited to be part of building BC's next generation of tech innovators.

The development and popularity of "The Cube" and other technological projects similar to it (such as the recent installation of the Amazon.com offices downtown) throughout the city, represent technology companies growing degree of interest and investment in Vancouver and British Columbia in general. As Vancouver's tech sector and community continues to grow, we are excited to be part of building BC's next generation of tech innovators.
